REVIEW: Perception

 Perception
Kim Harrington
Clarity #2

Synopsis: When you can see things others can't, what do you do when someone's watching you?  Everybody knows about Clarity "Clare" Fern. She's the psychic girl in school, the one who can place her hands on something and see hidden visions from the past.  Only Clare would rather not be a celebrity. She prefers hanging back, observing. Her gift is not a game to her.  But then someone starts playing with her head . . . and heart. Messages and gifts from a secret admirer crop up everywhere Clare turns. Could they be from Gabriel, the gorgeous boy who gets Clare's pulse racing? Or from Justin, Clare's hopeful ex-boyfriend who'd do anything to win her back?  One thing is certain. Clare needs to solve this mystery, and soon. Because the messages are becoming sinister, and a girl in town has suddenly disappeared.

My thoughts: Perception leaves me feeling the same way I did when I finished Clarity.  It is a light fluffy read, which is nice when I need a break from emotionally draining and time consuming books.  It doesn’t make my top 10, but it was still definitely worth my time.  I am excited for whatever the author has planned next, and will definitely plan on buying whatever that is!

One thing I really liked about Perception was that the characters were re-introduced.  Many books that are the second in a series jump right in to where they left off in the first book, which is ok and works for many books.  However, I may read several other books before getting to that second book.  So I often find myself questioning who people are and it all gradually comes back to me as I am reading.  I didn’t have to spend my time remembering who people were.  I was told right away who’s who.  So then I could really focus on the storyline.

I loved the murder mystery plot once again!  And actually, even more than that, I loved reading about Clare being stalked!  Several times while reading, I was thinking “oh that’s too easy” or “I could have guessed that”, but the author surprised me many times!  She made me think that it was too easy, but I ended up being wrong!  The stalker completely surprised me!  However, I think Clare could have definitely had worse stalkers!  It still would have been scary for anyone though.

I am so happy that Clare finally picked a boy!  Even if I am not amazed by this boy, I am happy that she chose.  I am really interested to see where their relationship goes and how things work out for them!  I don’t want to give anything away, because the love triangle was still very interesting to me in this book, and I don’t want to ruin it for you!  I definitely see a lot of potential though!

If you haven’t started this series, you should.  It is definitely a good light read.  It would be perfect to read while at the beach or just when you don’t want to put a whole lot of effort or emotion into it!  Sometimes you need that kind of read!
