REVIEW: Immortal City

Immortal City
Scott Speer

Synopsis: Jackson Godspeed is the hottest young Angel in a city filled with them. He's days away from becoming a full Guardian, and people around the world are already competing for the chance to be watched over by him. Everyone's obsessed with the Angels and the lucky people they protect--everyone except for Madison Montgomery.

Maddy's the one girl in Angel City who doesn't breathlessly follow the Angels on TV and gossip blogs. When she meets Jackson, she doesn't recognize him. But Jackson is instantly captivated by her, and against all odds the two fall in love.

Maddy is swiftly caught up in Jackson's scene, a world of glamour, paparazzi - and murder. A serial killer is on the loose, leaving dead Angels' wings for the police to find on the Walk of Fame. Even the Guardians are powerless to protect themselves in the face of this threat … and this time it's up to Maddy to save Jackson.

My thoughts: I was hooked on this book within the first chapter!  I just loved how different it is from anything else I have read.  I loved the idea of all of these Guardian Angels being on earth and not hiding.  Everyone knows about them.  It is really as if they are celebrities.  I felt like with the way everyone obsesses about them, that they really were the celebrities now.  I was also very interested in the idea that people could pay to have their own Guardian Angel.

I really enjoyed that it went back and forth between Maddy's and Jackson's point of view.  It was interesting to know what they are both thinking and feeling, and be able to see both sides of a relationship that is obviously in the works!  I think I was much more interested because it didn't just follow one character.  I honestly felt like I was watching a really awesome movie in my mind because of the different perspectives.

I liked how normal Maddy was.  She wasn't into the whole Guardian Angel thing.  She wasn't too impressed when she met Jackson.  She liked him as a person and didn't get too affected by his status.  She was kind of rude to him sometimes, but I kind of liked it.  I think that's part of why Jackson liked her as well.  She wasn't so infatuated with him because of who he is.  She was actually the opposite because of who he is!

My favorite part of this book was the characters.  I loved watching Maddy grow and the ending was amazing!  I'm really looking forward to more books from this author!
