REVIEW: Clockwork Angel

Clockwork Angel
Cassandra Clare
The Infernal Devices #1

Goodreads Description: Magic is dangerous--but love is more dangerous still.

When sixteen-year-old Tessa Gray crosses the ocean to find her brother, her destination is England, the time is the reign of Queen Victoria, and something terrifying is waiting for her in London's Downworld, where vampires, warlocks and other supernatural folk stalk the gaslit streets. Only the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons, keep order amidst the chaos.

Kidnapped by the mysterious Dark Sisters, members of a secret organization called The Pandemonium Club, Tessa soon learns that she herself is a Downworlder with a rare ability: the power to transform, at will, into another person. What's more, the Magister, the shadowy figure who runs the Club, will stop at nothing to claim Tessa's power for his own.

Friendless and hunted, Tessa takes refuge with the Shadowhunters of the London Institute, who swear to find her brother if she will use her power to help them. She soon finds herself fascinated by--and torn between--two best friends: James, whose fragile beauty hides a deadly secret, and blue-eyed Will, whose caustic wit and volatile moods keep everyone in his life at arm's length...everyone, that is, but Tessa. As their search draws them deep into the heart of an arcane plot that threatens to destroy the Shadowhunters, Tessa realizes that she may need to choose between saving her brother and helping her new friends save the world...and that love may be the most dangerous magic of all.

My thoughts:  I loved this book!  I am pretty sure the next book I buy will be Clockwork Prince.  I also intend on picking up Cassandra Clare's other series, The Mortal Instruments.  This whole world is something that I can't even imagine.  This series is so different from anything else I have read, which is the main reason why I love it!

There are many other reasons why I love this book.  I love everything about Tessa.  I love that she is such a fighter, even though she didn't really know what she was fighting.  I also love that she is constantly learning more about herself and her new world.  I really feel like I wasn't just thrown in the middle of a story.  I liked that this started at the beginning, where I could know Tessa before her life changed.

I love the relationships in this book.  There wasn't a ton of romance, but I really enjoyed the parts that did have a little romance.  Tessa and Will would make a great team.  I think Will regretted giving in even a little bit that one time, because now he is back to himself.  He insists that he is not interested, but quite often his behaviors make me think otherwise.  It really makes the "romance" part so interesting!  I do hope that there is much more of Tessa and Will in the sequel!

Tessa's brother surprised me.  I was so happy when Tessa found him and everybody was safe in the institute.  However, he quickly disappointed me.  After all she has done to find him, it is as if he has forgotten (or made himself forget) that Tessa is his sister!  I have many thoughts about his role for the next book as well.  I really hope that either we find out that he was under someone else's control and had no choice in his decision making, or that he dies.  I know that is terrible to say, and terrible to have Tessa go through that.  However, I think if neither one of those things happens, he will keep coming back to hurt Tessa some more.  And I really like Tessa and she does not deserve to be hurt!

This book didn't really surprise me.  I knew that it was going to be amazing! :)  I plan on picking up Clockwork Prince very soon, as I don't think I can go on much longer knowing it's out there and that I haven't bought it yet!

My rating:
