The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer
Michelle Hodkin
Mara Dyer # 1
Goodreads Description:
Mara Dyer doesn't think life can get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there. It can.
She believes there must be more to the accident she can't remember that killed her friends and left her mysteriously unharmed.
There is.
She doesn't believe that after everything she's been through, she can fall in love.
She's wrong.
My thoughts: Wow, I have picked some awesome books lately. This was another great read. Mara moves and goes to a new school to start over. It isn't as easy as she hopes. Right off the bat one girl gets in her way. She is jealous and stuck up and very annoying. Mara is disappointed and seems a little depressed.
She meets Jamie, who becomes a great friend to her. Jamie doesn't judge her and really genuinely cares for her. Then Noah starts showing an interest in Mara, and Jamie lets Mara know that Noah is bad news. Mara is careful though, and is willing to give Noah a chance, without letting things go too far. She isn't like the other girls he has been with. I was waiting and waiting for Noah to hurt her, but it never happened.
I loved the romance between Noah and Mara. Because Mara wasn't going to give in right away (not that Noah was pressuring her either), they really got to know each other and developed what I think is a real relationship. Mara and Noah learn so much about themselves throughout this whole book and realize in the end that they are meant for each other. There is so much going on in this book, but I can't say any of it without giving it away. :)
I loved the ending to this book. I actually thought it was a standalone, but now I realize that it is part of a series. It would have worked very well as a standalone. I can see that the story could definitely be developed a lot more, but it didn't really have the type of ending that leaves you hanging. It was definitely a great ending, just not a jaw dropping one. I definitely plan on continuing with this series!
My rating: ☺ ☺ ☺ ☺ ☺

I really enjoyed this book. This book is a definite keeper.

I thought this was a fantasy romance, or a paranormal, but I guess I was wrong. If not, I wouldn't be interested after all.
